VIEW THE PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE AT HALLOCK STATE PARK PRESERVE
Join Turtleback Conservation Center on Monday, April 8th for a total solar eclipse that will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. Long Island will experience a partial eclipse at 3:30 p.m. Only a part of the Sun will appear to be covered, giving it a crescent shape.
Visit Hallock State Park or Orient Beach State Park to receive free solar glasses for viewing at these two state parks. On the North Fork, the eclipse will begin at 2:12 PM and end at 4:37 PM. Total eclipse occurs at 3:27 PM.
All are invited to view the solar eclipse from the upper parking lot of Hallock State Park Preserve. Maximum eclipse time on the North Fork is 3:27 PM.
Retired Professor of Astronomy and Geology George Lomaga will bring viewing equipment, including his telescope equipped with a solar viewing lens.
NYS Park Environmental Educators will be on site for interpretation of the eclipse. Participants will receive a free pair of solar eclipse viewing glasses.
ORIENT BEACH STATE PARK will also have certified solar viewing glasses available.
This is a free event and there is no parking fee.
