Head to the Floyd Memorial Library for their current exhibition “Heritage and Home: Latin American Artists of the East End”
Erwin List Sanchez @erwinlistsculptures created two alebrijes sculptures that are on display.
Erwin describes these artworks…
“My brightly colored alebrijes, crafted using traditional cartonería (paper mache) techniques, embody the journey of Mexican cultural heritage. I create these whimsical creatures to share this vibrant art form with future generations, especially those born outside of Mexico. Inspired by my new home in Greenport, my work celebrates the way culture travels, adapts, and blends with new influences.”
Children ages 8 through 12 can learn more about alebrijes, and how to make their own fantastical creature this Saturday, April 20, 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Visit the Children’s Room at Floyd Memorial Library, or call 631-477-0660, ext. 4, to register in advance for this free workshop!
