Whether you’ve lost track of how many times you’ve visited or are a total newbie, Disney is one of those places where there’s always something new to learn or see. Lucky for us, Baiting Hollow mom and Authorized Disney Vacation Planner with Once Upon A Wish Travel, Amanda Latona, shares advice and pro tips on visiting the most magical place on earth.
Read on to learn why Amanda is considered a Disney pro and how she could help you make the most of your Disney experience.
“I have visited Disney more times than I can count and use every trip as a learning experience. I commit myself to learning and researching more about Disney destinations so that I can be the best travel advisor possible for my clients. From information about the resorts, parks, dining, transportation, and more, I make sure to keep up with the ever-changing and evolving system. Planning a Disney vacation requires a decent amount of knowledge about all of these items, so it is important to know what you are doing. I am an Authorized Disney Vacation planner and work for an amazing company that is designated as EarMarked Gold, which is a tribute to our expertise as an agency. I am lucky to work with such a great company that offers extensive knowledge, training, and support when needed,” Amanda shared.
Petite North Fork: When did your love for Disney begin?
Amanda: I have loved all things Disney since my first visit at four years old. I grew up adoring Disney movies, songs, and characters. When I was young, Disney World was our usual vacation choice, and today it is where my own family insists on visiting each year. As a mom, I love seeing the magic of Disney through their [my children’s] eyes and making lifelong memories there with my children.
PNF: What made you want to become a Disney travel planner?
Amanda: I have always loved the planning process for my own family vacations — researching the best resort, meticulously planning the itinerary, and making the best dining reservations. It always made me happy to plan for my own family and I thought it would be great to help other families plan their vacations too. Disney does require a little extra attention compared to other types of vacations and many people don't know where to start. And I was certainly right — there is nothing better than helping my clients create their own magical memories with their families.
PNF: Could you provide a breakdown of the Disney World properties?
Amanda: The Walt Disney World Resort includes four main parks: Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT. There are also two waterparks Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, as well as an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment complex called Disney Springs.
PNF: Which parks are best to visit with children ages 0-4?
Amanda: Children of all ages can enjoy all of the parks but Magic Kingdom offers the most family rides that are suitable for babies and toddlers. Most rides do not have a height requirement so families can ride them together.
PNF: Which parks are best to visit with children ages 5-12?
Amanda: All of the parks would be great for this age range but if I had to choose, I would say Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. They both have a mix of nostalgic rides and shows for younger children as well as some thrill rides for the taller, more adventurous rider.
PNF: Which parks are best to visit with teens and young adults?
Amanda: While I think that all ages can enjoy all of the parks, teens, and adults would absolutely appreciate EPCOT for its cultural and food scene. There are a few thrill rides to enjoy, plus food festivals throughout the year in the world showcase.
PNF: What advice do you have for first-time families visiting Disney?
Amanda: There is so much to see and do that it can seem overwhelming. I recommend not trying to cram too much into their week to avoid feeling burnt out. Make a wish list of your most important items and do what you can in your time! You will enjoy it much more than if you over-plan your days.
PNF: What are three things that every family should know when planning a Disney trip?
Amanda:
1- Use a trusted travel advisor! Our services are complimentary, but our value is priceless!
2- Plan for at least one rest/resort day in between your park days to enjoy the pool and all of the activities at the resort as well as Disney Springs. Your legs will thank you!
3- Book early for the best availability and rates. Secure your dates with a $200 refundable deposit, discounts can be applied even after your reservations are made (and I monitor them to get better deals for my clients!)
PNF: Which resort accommodations are best for which parks?
Amanda: Each park has its own "resort area" that includes resorts that are in closest proximity to them. So, for Magic Kingdom I would choose The Polynesian, for EPCOT I would stay at the Yacht or Beach Club, the Caribbean Beach Resort is convenient for Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom Lodge for Animal Kingdom. But really, my advice is to choose whichever resort is in your budget and appeals to you the most because you will be able to get to any of the parks regardless of where you stay.
PNF: What is something that families might not initially consider at Disney but is 100% worth doing?
Amanda: Disney offers VIP tours that include personalized service with a private guide. VIP tours are valid for up to 10 guests and a minimum of 7 hours. Guests will receive a customized itinerary for their day which includes special transportation and priority access to shows and rides.
PNF: What are the best times of the year to visit Disney?
Amanda: I recommend traveling to Disney anytime from November to May, with the exception of Spring Break (certain weeks in March and April) due to the extremely high crowds. January to early February is usually less crowded and brings more comfortable temperatures while November and December offer the opportunity to see the parks and resorts decorated for the holidays. The summer can be very hot but if you don't mind the heat, there are typically lower crowds and rates.
PNF: Does Disney offer discounts and deals?
Amanda: Disney surprisingly offers special promotions throughout the year. From room discounts to free dining plans, Disney provides opportunities for guests to save money on their vacations. New for 2025 packages, Disney is including free admission to a waterpark on check-in day. There are also military rates available throughout the year. Discounts can be applied after a vacation is already booked, so I always recommend booking early for the best availability to secure their reservation, I then monitor for any discounts that their package may be eligible for and automatically apply them for my clients.
PNF: What is something families should know when considering Disney?
Amanda: Disney truly offers something for everyone. Character meals, photo packages, princess makeovers, and specialized tours are just some of the "Magical Extras" that you can book. They provide a magical experience for kids and adults alike; you are never too young or old for Disney!
