Celebrate the power of making at this weekend’s 5th Annual Maker Fair presented by Peconic Community School

Clear your calendars for Saturday, April 13, this family-friendly event is one you won’t want to miss! Join the local North Fork community for the 5th Annual Maker Fair hosted by Peconic Community School (PCS) at their new Cutchogue campus this Saturday (4/13) from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. There, attendees of all ages are welcome to dive into a festival of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness with plentiful workshops, interactive demonstrations, hands-on crafts, and more from nearly 30 makers of every kind.
PCS Director of Communications and Documentation Megan Eilers shared that in addition to the maker vendors and demos, attendees can expect “a student-created cardboard arcade, a full line-up of performers, a sidewalk food market of local vendors, and a giant cardboard building station with a “float your boat” station where kids can build and test their own boats.”
The Maker Fair has been a favorite event of PCS and the local community since its inception, but hosting this beloved event at the school’s new campus for the first time is an exciting moment for PCS.
“We are most excited about welcoming the community to our new campus,” Megan told us. “This is a dream come true to have a space of our own that we can welcome in the community — especially to an event in celebration of our community’s resourcefulness and creativity. Community is the heart of our school, and we’re thrilled to engage visitors, makers, families, and students in this day of making.”
Although this fair is hosted by and at PCS, the event extends beyond the PCS community with many notable North Fork makers offering hands-on experiences such as Cindy Pease Roe with UpSculpt, Bill Moulton from Greenie Supply & Tackle, Custer Institute, Artfully Long Island, and VEME Studios — to name a few.
“There’s a chance to win an exclusive treasure map from Greenie Supply [& Tackle] made just for our Maker Fair, a chance to work with the UpSculpt team to help build out our 6-foot whale tail sculpture made from salvaged marine debris, fiber artists on hand for kids to try finger knitting and felting, a ceramist offering turns on the pottery wheel, and much more,” said Megan.
If that’s not enough, the day will include multiple performers too in every art form.
“Bowsprite will lead drum circles throughout the day, Olivia Foschi and the East End Jazz trio will perform, Carmen Campos from PuppetED will do a puppet show and workshop, magician Zach Alexander will lead a magic show and workshop, Anne O’Rourke will perform and lead interactive children’s music workshops, and local author Peggy Dickerson will hold storytime readings from her book ‘Moonglow’,” added Megan.
To fuel all of this making, there will be a sidewalk food court including Balo’s food truck, Goodfood., North Fork French Picnic, and a PCS alumni café featuring coffee from Jamesport Sourdough and Coffee along with a selection of baked goods and snacks.
“We hope to inspire a collective spirit of resourcefulness, creativity, and community in anyone who visits. We hope everyone leaves wanting to rush home and keep making,” Megan concluded.
Peconic Community School is located at 27685 Main Road in Cutchogue. A $15 admission donation per family is suggested but not obligatory.
