Picture this: the air warm, the breeze cool, as you and your petite crew gather with friends at Hotel Moraine for a monthly series of open art exploration, met with stunning views and relaxed, family-friendly vibes.

Meet Art Lab on the Lawn — a fun and unique collaboration series by Artfully Long Island, Petite North Fork, and Hotel Moraine.

The Series

“Together, we will provide monthly opportunities for families to enjoy the beauty and community of the North Fork while using recycled and upcycled materials to imagine and create,” shared Nicole Roccaro, founder of Artfully Long Island. “With a variety of interesting materials and endless possibilities, children can explore, create, and bring their unique ideas to life at their own pace.”

Open art sessions will occur one Sunday per month from April through October, with the first scheduled for Sunday, April 27, at 11 a.m. (Register now!)

Each open studio session will cost $15/artist, and will run for 1.5 hours, with an invitation to arrive at your leisure and stay and create for as little or long as you please.

“The open studio setting fosters imagination, self-expression, and problem-solving, giving every child the freedom to create their masterpiece,” added Nicole. “When children create art with recycled materials in a group setting like our events at Hotel Moraine, they can collaborate, share ideas, and work together, which helps develop teamwork and communication skills.”

Children and people of all ages are invited to partake in Art Lab on the Lawn.

The Setting

While art can be created anywhere, having a beautiful and family-friendly environment to create in offers numerous benefits for blossoming artists.

“The stunning location of Hotel Moraine provides obvious inspiration with the colors and textures we see in the Long Island Sound, sand, and grass,” said Nicole. “This backdrop also provides a sensory-rich experience that promotes physical well-being, mindfulness, encourages social interaction and collaboration, and boosts cognitive and creative thinking.”

“Based upon our motto, 'Where the Land Meets the Sea,’ this series will bring together what we love most about the North Fork in a creative, sustainable, and thoughtful way,” Hotel Moraine General Manager, Rachel Flatley, added. “Being able to share the natural beauty of the North Fork, even with our smallest guests, is important to us at Hotel Moraine.”

Beyond the inspiring and serene setting, Hotel Moraine is dedicated to being a family-friendly destination.

“From our adjoining room options, complimentary cribs, and baby bath amenities, we wanted our littlest guests to feel included,” Rachel shared. “We welcome children with a toy-filled cart in our lobby, a special stuffed animal waiting for them in their room, and offer games and crafts in our cottage.”

Hotel Moraine has designed a thoughtfully curated food menu to keep both children and parents satisfied and satiated throughout their day. The hotel also features seasonal amenities such as movie nights, ice cream socials, hot cocoa and cookies, and more.

Hotel Moraine is located at 62005 County Road 48, Greenport. Art Lab on the Lawn will take place outside on the Hotel Moraine lawn overlooking the Long Island Sound unless inclement weather moves the event indoors into Hotel Moraine’s cottage.

Art Lab on the Lawn open studio sessions will take place on the following Sundays at 11 a.m.: 4/27, 5/25, 6/8, 7/20, 8/17, 9/28, 10/26 on the lawn of Hotel Moraine, Greenport. Register here for the April session and to receive series reminders for all additional dates.
