On April 24, 1834, the Long Island Rail Road Company was issued a Charter by the New York State Legislature to create a railroad from the foot of the East River, Brooklyn to either Sag Harbor or the harbor of Greenport, New York. On July 27, 1844, the first LIRR trains ran over the railroad to Greenport, ushering in a new dynamic in travel from NYC to Boston. Come celebrate with us as we recognize the men, the women, and the accomplishments of our own Long Island Rail Road!
