Five birthday party ideas for the cooler seasons
With backyard birthdays on hold until spring, we know planning your kids’ winter parties can be challenging. If you’re looking for some inspiration, you’ve come to the right place. Here are five ideas for indoor spots on the North Fork to host a birthday party during the off-season.
Paint a chocolate canvas at Disset Chocolate
The sweetest way to celebrate a birthday! Schedule a private workshop at Disset Chocolate in Cutchogue where up to 10 kids (min. of six) are invited to partake in a chocolate canvas painting workshop. For parties with children ages six and up, each kid will receive a 10x12, two-pound milk or dark chocolate canvas, cocoa butter paints, all painting materials including aprons, and envelopes to transport the canvases home. This workshop lasts approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. For parties with younger children as young as age three, a smaller canvas is placed at the center of a table with the invite for all children to paint together, cocoa butter paint, and all materials provided, but finger painting is welcome! This session lasts about 45 minutes and costs $35/child. Guests are welcome to bring in food and beverages. Email cristina@dissetchocolate.com for more information or to book!
Ice skate away at Peconic Ice Rinks
Embrace the chill with an ice skating birthday party. Peconic Ice Rinks in Calverton offers birthday party packages for $35 per person (with a minimum of 10 children) that include 90 minutes of ice time, skate rentals, a 15-minute group lesson, 30 minutes for pizza and beverages in the party room, paper goods and tableware, a party hot, and coupons for each guest to come back and skate. However, packages can be customized to suit each family’s needs. For party reservations, call 631-953-6300 or visit their website here.
Seas the (birth)day at Long Island Aquarium

Parties include full-day aquarium admission, party invitations, aquatic-themed party ware, a party host, food and drink package options, cupcakes, reserved seating at the Sea Lion show, a visit to the Eye Opener tree activity center, and more. Included is a craft based on the age and birthday child’s interest, with possible options of an I Spy jar, glitter jar, paper making, or custom notepad workshop, along with all needed materials, and a take-home bag for the craft.
