Last Licks on Frozen Treats

Dos Ositos Paletas enjoyed by North Fork kids at The Sunshine Shack in Orient.

While “we all scream for ice cream” is forever the ultimate truth, cool off your crew during the dog days of summer with these not-so-basic frozen North Fork treats.

Dos Ositos Paletas

We won’t judge if you serve your kids these small-batch, fresh-fruit ice pops for breakfast. Family-made with simple ingredients, often sourced from North Fork farms, Dos Ositos Paletas are a frozen treat you can feel good about giving to your petite crew. The flavors and offerings consistently change depending on seasonal produce availability so check their Instagram page for flavor drops and info on local pop-ups. Find Dos Ositos Paletas at The Sunshine Shack at Orient Beach State Park, Greenport Brewing Company in Peconic, Lombardi’s Love Lane Market, and more. Visit dosositospaletas.com for the complete list.

8 Hands Farm Frozen Custard

Every parent knows that the absolute easiest way to bribe your kids into running errands with you is the promise of a sweet treat. Well, with 8 Hands Farm frozen custard, you don’t even have to make an additional stop to fulfill the promise. This soft-serve frozen custard is made with the farm’s own eggs creating a rich and decadent frosty treat. The flavors rotate weekly so be sure to get on the farm’s mailing list to stay in the know. This week, vanilla frozen custard and peach sorbet are available Thursday through Sunday. And if you’ve managed an errand run sans kids, be sure to grab a 10 or 15 oz. container from the freezer of vanilla, chocolate, or coffee frozen custard to eat on the car ride bring home. 8 Hands Farm is located on Cox Lane in Cutchogue.

Hallock’s Cider Mill Frozen Key Lime Pops

If Key lime is your fam’s go-to choice of pie you must try Hallock’s Cider Mill’s frozen Key lime pops for the ideal August treat. Single-size servings of frozen Key lime pie perched on a popsicle stick and tucked into a chocolate shell make this dessert unlike any other. Sit outside at the farm stand’s picnic tables as you savor these sweets and the sounds of summer. Hallock’s Cider Mill is located at 1960 Main Road in Laurel.

Rottkamp’s Fox Hollow Farm Ice Cream Nachos

A heap of soft serve ice cream, cone “nachos,” and dipping sauce? We think Rottkamp’s Fox Hollow Farm wins for the most creative frozen treat. After a run through the sunflower maze or a romp on the wooden playgrounds, dig into some serious dessert at this Baiting Hollow farm stand. Rottkamp’s Fox Hollow Farm is located at 2287 Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow.
