Recently listed by Time Out New York as one of the top Off-Broadway Shows for families and kids, Broadway Magic Hour performs on Saturday afternoons at the Broadway Comedy Club in NYC. However, you won’t find Broadway Magic Hour performing in their regular spot on Saturday, April 5 because they’ll be in on the NORTH FORK!

On Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 5 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m., Jim Vines and Carl Mercurio of Broadway Magic Hour will perform their family-friendly magic show at the North Fork Community Theatre (NFCT) in Mattituck.

Kristen Greek will also join Jim and Carl on stage for the magic shows at NFCT. With a background in dance and acting, Kristen brings a level of entertainment to the show and her magic routine within the show.

“Our family magic show is enjoyable and appreciated by all ages. There’s a lot of comedy and a tremendous amount of audience interaction and fun,” Carl told Petite North Fork in a recent interview.

The 75-minute shows will include a magical combination of sleight of hand, mind-reading, comedy, and grand illusion.

Carl, a seasoned magician who began doing magic when he was 16 years old, has performed regularly for 50 years.

Jim, who has performed magic in 12 countries and on national TV lives in Greenport shared how he came to perform at the NFCT, “I’ve known Mary Motto Kalich [a director at NFCT] for over 20 years. My wife and Mary were in the Southold Mother’s Club and our kids were the same age so they grew up together. We used to go sailing all the time and we’ve always supported the theatre, then, a few years ago I was talking to Mary and I said ‘We should do a magic show there.’ Since then, Jim and Carl have performed three shows at the North Fork Community Theatre; each has sold out.

“The interaction is where most of the fun is because that’s what makes every show different,” Carl told us. “We have our tricks and our presentation and our jokes but what makes each show unique, and what’s really fun for us, is how the audience reacts and how the kids that come up react. The audience makes every show a wild card and that’s what we enjoy the most.”

The magic show performances serve as a fundraiser for the NFCT Building on Tradition Campaign with plans of renovating the community theatre.

“In 2013, the NFCT purchased the 1831 building it has been performed in for over 50 years and started a Renovation Campaign to improve the building’s theatrical capabilities,” shared Mary Motto Kalish. “Our goal is to keep the charm of the building but enable our patrons to better see, hear, and experience live theatre at the NFCT.”

Tickets to Broadway Magic Hour’s Family Magic Show at the North Fork Community Theatre cost $28/person and can be purchased here. Tickets are expected to sell out.
