As parents, we deserve to kick back and hang at places that aren’t just for kids. (Can I get a “HECK YES!”?) But let’s face it, securing a babysitter is no easy feat. Don’t worry — at these six family-friendly spots across the North Fork, you can sip and hang with your kids in tow.
24 E 2nd St., Suite A, Riverhead
It may not have a yard for the kids to run around in, but this Downtown Riverhead brewery is very family-friendly with a spacious, industrial (AKA not precious) interior and a great outdoor patio complete with picnic tables that our petite crew can’t wait to hang at. Current hours: Wednesday and Thursday, 3 - 7 p.m., Friday, 2 - 8 p.m., Saturday 12 - 8 p.m., Sunday 12 - 7 p.m.
2711 Sound Ave., Calverton
Featuring tons of flavors of hard cider, live music, tableside guac, an in-house cafe complete with kid-friendly food, and indoor and outdoor areas, this cidery is loud, fun, and super family-friendly! An ideal spot to hang when you’re in the mood for something a bit different or get-togethers with your besties and their kid crew too. Current hours: Thursday and Friday, 12 - 9 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. - 8 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
22600 Main Rd., Cutchogue
This family-owned winery is as rustic and quaint as the North Fork gets, plus it produces some top-notch wine and features its own grass-fed, premium beef burger nights during the high season — we’ll be there before we know it, people! While it’s still a touch too chilly to sit outside at the picnic tables, indoors you’ll find a small handful of barn stalls turned tasting “suites” that are perfect to contain your crew. Current hours: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Little Creek Oyster Farm & Market
211 Carpenter St., Greenport
Sip a cocktail or a pint, throw back some oysters, a hot dog, or other unexpected nosh at this Greenport oyster market, restaurant, and bar. Kids are welcome to come along just as they were at Little Creek’s OG location. Bonus points if they slurp down some oysters themselves. Current hours for March: Wednesday and Friday 5 - 9 p.m., Saturday 12 - 9 p.m., Sunday 12 - 8 p.m.
250 Manor Ln., Jamesport
Few things are better than an all-in-one spot where you can imbibe AND feed your kids dinner. This Jamesport boutique vineyard got the “We need food” memo! Going beyond the charcuterie board, although it’s divine, there’s also a substantial menu of food offerings including paninis — the caprese, a kid-fav. Current hours: Wednesday and Thursday, 12 - 5 p.m., Friday 12 - 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Greenport Harbor Brewing Company, Peconic
42155 Main Rd., Peconic
If you’re a parent then GHBC’s Peconic location is typically a given, a go-to. With a full restaurant on-site, live music, and a huge outdoor area usually packed with families (esp. in the warmer months) this spot makes hanging with the kids easy-peasy. Current hours: Monday through Thursday 12 - 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday 12 - 9 p.m., and Sunday 12 - 7 p.m.
