PSA to my fellow parents: Yeah, I’m not sure how either, but the February break is a mere few weeks away! Avoid screentime overload and make the most of your North Fork staycation by signing up for one of these four winter break camps. From nature to soccer to arts and crafts there's something for every North Fork kid.
Explore the outdoors in winter with Jen Murray at Peconic Community School
Join naturalist and educator, Jennifer Murray, for an outdoor adventure on the Peconic Community School campus in Cutchogue. During this February break camp scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 18 through Friday, Feb. 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., children in grades K through 6 are invited to learn essential winter survival skills including building shelters from natural materials, water collection, wildlife tracking, and map and compass skills all while exploring and embracing the outdoors. Dig into paper mâché play with Bunnii at Rowan Craft Boutique
Let your child’s imagination run wild at this three-day paper mâché animal head camp hosted by Rowan Craft Boutique in Southold. During this hands-on workshop, children (ages 5+) will learn the basics of paper mâché techniques and create their own animal head masterpiece choosing from a rabbit, unicorn, owl, or fox. The camp will take place Friday, Feb. 21 through Sunday, Feb. 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. The cost is $200/child and includes all materials. Register here.
Kick it (indoors) with North Fork United Soccer Club
Local soccer club, NFU, will be hosting a winter break camp at the Greenport American Legion in Greenport for current club and non-club members ages 7 through 13 on Monday, Feb. 17 through Thursday, Feb. 220 (snow cancelation makeup date: Friday, Feb. 21) from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. In this four-day soccer camp, athletes will experience expert coaching from certified trainers, skill-building drills and exercises, fun mini-games and challenges, team-building activities, exciting tournaments and matches, and more. Create environmental art with Tony Valderrama at East End Arts
At East End Arts in downtown Riverhead, children ages 6 to 12 will connect creativity with nature in this full-week environmental art camp scheduled from Monday, Feb. 17 to Friday, Feb. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. Monday will explore nature watercolors, Tuesday zoomorphic clay pinch-pots, Wednesday driftwood/shell art, Thursday recycled bottle glow bugs, and Friday make animal masks.
