The Kids’ Room at Scott’s Pointe gets a Petite-approved redesign

Real talk: Before the redesign of the Kids’ Room at Scott’s Pointe, having two kids under the age of 10 made the Calverton adventure park somewhat challenging. My daughter age 7, would zoom around the dedicated space for children taking advantage of the climbing walls, obstacle course, virtual reality games, warped wall, and back while my son, age 3, was limited to the jungle gym and quaint soft play area. Repeating, “Sorry, you can’t today, but when you’re bigger…” over and over to a three-year-old gets old fast. But, all that has changed with the recent redesign of the Kids’ Room.

Now, both kids can spend hours jumping, climbing, exploring, running, bouncing, and playing while contained in one room—heaven. Here’s an inside look at the newly renovated space and some of the changes Scott’s Pointe has made to make the adventure park even more family-friendly for your petite crew.

Explorer Course

Sparkling new and thoughtfully designed, this multi-level adventure jungle features four racing slides, obstacles, climbing tubes, a catwalk, ramps, hills, and more. The play space is ideal for even the youngest walkers with secure netting and visibility throughout so you can feel secure as your child openly explores and enjoys.

Softplay Climbing Wall

Now not only are the biggest and bravest kids invited to test their skills at the climbing wall, the new seven-panel softplay climbing wall invites younger kiddos to get in on the action too. The wall features many different size and shape climbing props set in a fun STEAM display. The climbing structure is maybe seven feet tall making it a less intimidating challenge than the full-sized kids’ climbing walls.

Trampolines and Foam Pit

These side-by-side trampolines with an adjoining foam pit enable two children to jump safely, each on their own sprawling trampoline, before bouncing into a giant foam pit. A Scott’s Pointe staffer keeps a close eye making sure that each child stays in their own dedicated space — a safety measure we parents can appreciate.

Softplay 2.0

New, improved, and ten times the size of the original softplay area, one entire corner of the Kids’ Room is now dedicated to softplay. The section includes foam mats, building blocks, rockers, climbers, a playhouse, a ball pit, and interactive wall games. This section is great for crawlers and new walkers.

Kids’ Climbing Walls

While these climbing walls aren’t new to the space, it’s worth mentioning that they are still located in the Kids’ Room. These three climbing walls, which are monitored and operated by Scott’s Pointe staffers, each feature varying levels of challenge and are complete with a climbing harness preventing injury from falls as the top is quite high. We’re no climbing experts but would think that these walls are best for children ages 6+.

If you’re wondering what happened to the rest of the play structures that were previously located in the Kids’ Room we have intel on that too. Now, as you enter the adventure park, the wooden jungle gym is located just inside the park next to the wave simulator. Our kids enjoyed playing on that as we were waiting for friends to arrive.

The large “floor is lava” style obstacle course that once sat in the back of the Kid’s Room is now in the center of the main park room between the bar and the axe throwing lanes. While our kids enjoy hanging and swinging on these obstacles, it's better suited for older children, teens, and adults.

And if you’re looking for the warped wall, we’re not sure where it went but it's no longer at Scott’s Pointe which sits well with me as all that comes to mind when I think of it are twisted ankles and possible collisions — no thanks!

One thing that I’d encourage that we did for the first time on a recent visit was the laser tag. I wasn’t sure how our youngest in tow would do but we gave it a shot playing on teams with another family of four and it was so much fun. The Long Island-themed room is visibly interesting and appropriate for children, albeit post-apocalyptic. The session was filled with shrieks of laughter and fun was had by all.

This week, Scott’s Pointe is open Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visit scottspointe.com for complete details and ticket information.
