Celebrate Mother Earth with these family-friendly Earth Day events

From beach clean-ups to birding walks, there are countless ways to celebrate Earth Day on the North Fork and its surrounding local East End towns. Best of all, because Earth Day falls on a weekday, events are spread out over two weekends allowing plentiful celebrations through the end of the month. 

Dandelion Festival

Sunday, April 21 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

KK & Ira’s Farm, Southold

While this festival may not be called an “Earth Day Festival” it celebrates all that Earth gives us, especially dandelions! Attendees will enjoy making flower crowns and crafts, participating in educational workshops, and listening to the tunes of award-winning musician Brady Rymer and The Littlest Band That Could. Slow Food East End Earth Day Celebration

Sunday, April 21 from 1 to 4 p.m.

St. Joseph Villa, Hampton Bays

At this family-friendly event hosted by Slow Food East End, attendees will meet farmers, food producers, artists, and activists, and partake in hands-on educational demos. Kids will be invited to join in on art projects and native seed bomb-making. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Live music by Points East. Free with registration. More details here

Kenney’s Beach Clean Up

Saturday, April 27 at 10:30 a.m.

Starting location: Little Fish Restaurant, Southold

Join Relic and local businesses to clean up Kenney’s Beach in Southold. After the clean-up, head to Little Fish for complimentary light bites and beverages. More details here.

Earth Day Celebration at Tanger Outlets

Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Pedestrian Plaza, Tanger II, Tanger Outlets, Riverhead

At this family-friendly gathering, attendees will discover games, crafts, giveaways, and more all with an Earth Day theme.

Earth Day Celebration at Quogue Wildlife Refuge

Saturday, April 27 from 12 to 3 p.m.

Quogue Wildlife Refuge, Quogue

If you’re hoping to celebrate Earth Day while in nature, this is the event to attend! The day will include guided bird walks, live animal presentations, kid-friendly crafts, environmental exhibitors, and more. Registration is not required. More details here

Shoreham-Wading River Earth Day Cleanup

Sunday, April 28 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m.

The Shoppes at East Wind, Wading River

Bring the whole family to this community Earth Day cleanup for a day of environmental stewardship and connecting with neighbors and friends. All cleanup supplies will be provided. North Fork Environmental Council (NFEC) Earth Day 5K Race and Walk

Sunday, April 28 from 9 until 11 a.m., (race starts at 10 a.m.)

Indian Island Suffolk County Park, Riverhead

Go for a walk (or a run!) in nature to celebrate Earth Day this year. All proceeds will fund the NFEC Scholarship and Environmental Educational programs. More details and register for the race here

Sunday, April 28 from 9 until 11 a.m.

Earth Day Sensory Swing & Sway with Little Moments Little Fam

Thursday, April 25 from 10 until 11 a.m.

Inspire Dance Centre, Southold
